Stephen Ministry provides distinctively Christian, one-to-one care to anyone in our congregation or community who is going through a difficult time, a transition, or a crisis and is in need of encouragement and support. This is not therapy nor physical/financial support but a listening ear and a prayer partner for emotional and spiritual support.

Are you going through a hard time?

Everyone goes through difficult times. Having someone to care, listen, and share God’s love can help you get through a time of confusion, stress, or loneliness.

There is no need to struggle alone.

At St Matthew, we have members of our congregation who are available to meet with you personally and walk with you on your journey. We refer to these people as Stephen Ministers.

Our Stephen Ministry Team: Rev. John Diener, Susan Zimmerman, Patty Harrington, Jean Slimmen, and Fritz Owen

A STEPHEN MINISTER IS:

  • A member of our congregation who has received 50 hours of training in how to provide distinctively Christian care.
  • A trustworthy confidant who will keep everything you say, and even your identity, confidential.
  • Someone who will faithfully meet with you on a weekly basis for as long as your need persists.

A STEPHEN MINISTER IS NOT:

  • A counselor or therapist
  • A problem-solver
  • Someone who runs errands or helps with chores
  • A casual visitor

God does not intend for us to struggle alone. There’s a Stephen Minister waiting to walk alongside you.

Do you have a heart for those who are struggling? Contact the Stephen Ministry team to learn about becoming a Stephen Minister.
