A Message From Pastor Rob
Thursday, March 12, 11:30 AM
Isaiah 43:1 “Don’t fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine.”
It’s easy to get caught up in fear when facing the unknown. At St Matthew, we want you to know that we are taking the coronavirus situation seriously and prayerfully as we seek to love God and love our neighbors.
We will follow the guidance of our local health officials in Kent County and the advice of the Center for Disease Control. At this moment (Thursday, March 12, 4:30 PM) local officials have not called for gatherings to be cancelled, so we will plan to continue to meet at church as scheduled.
We’ll use good common sense and we urge you to as well. Hand sanitizer and tissues are available throughout the building. Our cleaning staff are taking extra care to sanitize things well, and our altar guild will prepare extra individual cups for communion.
If you are feeling sick or you are worried about catching something, please stay home and worship with us online.
Planning and Future Preparations
In the event local health officials advise churches in Kent County not gather, we would encourage you to follow that advice. We thank God for the gifts of doctors, nurses, and medicine and we want to follow their advice, especially as it helps us to love our neighbor by not spreading contagious diseases.
Should that happen, consider the following:
- Join us online. At St Matthew, we already broadcast our late service on Facebook Live. You can tune in on Facebook and follow along on our Facebook Page. Gather with the family for a time of digging into God’s Word, prayer, and music. We’ll also work to make other resources available for you and your family.
- Utilize Electronic Giving. If you are a member and you haven’t set up a giving on our online platform please do so. It’s a matter of good stewardship and we know we can only continue to operate on the faithful support of God’s people. Learn more or setup your account.
- Stay in touch. While large gatherings may be discouraged, small groups can continue to meet. In the potential absence of worship services at church, gathering with your small group will be so important to stay connected as you pray and engage in the Word of God together. If you’re not in a small group, consider starting one!
For the latest information on St Matthew’s response to the COVID-19 virus, please check back in on this page as we’ll keep it updated with the latest information that we have.
In the meantime, pray for those who are on the front lines – the doctors, nurses, and health workers. Look for ways to love your neighbors, especially as people may be spending more time at home in the next few weeks due to closures. And trust in Jesus, the one who is greater than all our fears!
