Quilting Group

The Lutheran World Relief quilt group of St Matthew meets monthly September through April on the second Thursday of the month from 9:15 to noon in room 105. Last year LWR distributed over 300,00 quilts worldwide to disaster and poverty areas. So far this year we have assembled 26 quilts. We hope to add a few more before the October in-gathering.

If you can thread a needle and tie a knot we can use your help. The sewing work is done at home by numerous volunteers. When we gather we layer a backing with a batting for filler and a pieced top. That is when you are valuable! We tie the layers together with embroidery floss. You can be young or old, man or woman – everyone can help!

If you can sew, you can pick up a block or top kit to machine sew at home. Kits can be found in the cupboard below the Sunday coffee station. Finished kits or donated fabric can be returned there. We welcome donations of flat twin sheets in good condition. These are used for the quilt backs.

We’re looking forward to seeing some new faces along with returning faces!
